MARii’s and UiTM’s innovation – MOST-Plus wins Best Innovation Award at MTE 2020
The Modular and Open System-Plus (MOST-Plus) – an innovation given birth through the collaboration between Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) and Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UITM) Smart Manufacturing Research Institute (SMRI) has clinched the Best Innovation Award and a Silver Medal (Prevention category) in the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2020 Special Edition’s COVID-19 International Innovation Awards.
MOST-Plus is an all-in-one pandemic prevention solution equipped with Industry 4.0 technologies such as Big Data Analytics (BDA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT) to enable contactless implementation of COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
“The MOST project is executed through a triple helix collaboration model involving academia, government, and industry in developing local talents especially in innovating world class commercialized products that can cater the global needs. This initiative provides a platform for Malaysians to be directly involved in the invention, development and commercialisation aspects of technology development and application. Constant supports must be continuously provided in helping Malaysia as a nation to become a global technology provider.”, said Ir. Dr. Noor Azlina Mohd Salleh, Leader of the MOST Project and Deputy Director of SMRI.https://www.youtube.com/embed/jAbCAFQbOZ4?autoplay=0&mute=0&controls=1&origin=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.marii.my&playsinline=1&showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3&modestbranding=1&enablejsapi=1&widgetid=1

MOST-Plus features an integration of Level 2 Karakuri Kaizen principle to enable automation without the need of using electrical power, making its implementation process flexible and easy. The device is also equipped with a camera, including facial recognition and infrared capabilities which acts as a temperature scanner and to record data. A 7-inch touchscreen is fitted for clear and concise visual presentation of important data such as health status, risk levels, and identifications.
The MOST-Plus comes installed with an open system software designed and developed by UiTM which can be customised according to various needs and applications while complying to various digital Human Resource Data Management Systems. This feature is complemented with a QR code and barcode scanner for a more efficient and personalised data collection and analysis.
More unique features of the MOST-Plus includes a shoe/feet sanitiser, mask holder, and the Health Tower Signal which is comprised of three warning lights that corresponds to the temperature of the individual.
Moving forward, the MOST-Plus system is undergoing further R&D (for a more advanced MOST-Pro version) and commercialisation with the assistance from MARii to further upgrade the capabilities of the device by equipping it with remote and real-time data monitoring features, including connectivity elements such as a smartphone app – making the MOST solution futureproof, upgradable, and cost-effective.
Ts. Dr. Noorfadzli Abdul Razak, Head of Robotics, IoT and Big Data Division, SMRI said that the addition of Industry 4.0 technologies enables MOST to hinder COVID-19’s effects effectively by utilising digital technologies and tools, and will allow decision makers to make informed decision based on data-driven tools. He also said that a contactless vending machine for purchasing various Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be integrated to the MOST-Pro version.
The MOST-Plus device has been implemented in high-traffic areas within the UiTM campus, one main location being the UiTM Mosque. The device was also utilised in the recently held concert – WINGS KITA MERDEKA 2020 in Dewan Wawasan Convention & Exhibition Centre, proving its effectiveness in densely populated areas.
The collaboration between MARii and UiTM which was initiated back in 2010 was reinvigorated last year, which led to advances in the areas of human capital development and application of technology to meet industry demands – one significant milestone being the various MOST systems in 2020.
The MOST-Plus system will be featured at the COVID-19 International Innovation Hub, during the MTE2021 exhibition which will be taking place from 25-27th March at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur.
